Lots of good Web Programming information:

Action Script?

Action Script is the programming language of Flash. Though not an easy language
to learn for the non-programmer type, ActionScript can be cut and pasted from
the code of other programmers. If your conscience prohibits stealing shamlessly,
learning the language of ActionScript can be done. If you have any programming
knowleges at all, learning ActionScript should be easy. The language is
"event driven." In other words, you will need to begin thinking in terms of
"event" / "action."

With Action Script you are able to create highly imersed interactive actions
for web users, utilizing the event handler. The "event handler" is how ActionScript
tells Flash what action to take. For example; an "event" can be compared in real-life
as an alarm clock sounding off. In this case you might program "Go to Work."
To do this, you might set your alarm to 6AM, and when the [event] "alarm sounds"
occurs an [action] "wake-up" takes place. When all of the other events and actions
takes place you will be sitting happily at your desk.

ActiveX?

ActiveX from Microsoft, enables interactive content for the World Wide Web.
Before ActiveX, browsing the web was like looking through a library which
contained only books, news papers, and magazines. The content was relatively
static, complete, but static. ActiveX controls are simply another Windows program
with the ability to receive and process inputs, to generate outputs and display
information. An ActiveX control is similar to a Java applet. Unlike Java applets,
however, ActiveX controls have full access to the Windows operating system.
With this more complete access to the client system, web applications can take
advantage of the speakers and video more completely, giving the user a more
interactive / multimedia experience on the web.

VBScript is to ActiveX as JavaScript is to Java. VBScript is a scripting language
that enables Web authors to embed interactive elements in HTML documents.
Currently, Internet Explorer, supports Java, JavaScript, and ActiveX, whereas
Netscape Navigator browsers support only Java and JavaScript. Consider this when
deciding how you would like to develop interactive or multimedia content for your web pages.

Computer Virus?

http://www.howstuffworks.com/virus.htm

Computer Viruses are small programs which attatch to host programs and run each time
the host program is launched. Most viruses are nuisance viruses and replicate and
"infect" the host machine and or programs. Viruses began in the 1960's as "prank"
viruses, but in the mid eighties malicious viruses were first noted. Programs and
computers can be protected from viruses utilizing "anti-Virus" software, if you wisely
decide to use anti-virus software you must remember to keep the program updated for
maximum protection.

The way Computer Viruses work requires many phases. The first step in any virus attack
is always the invasion. This is when the virus actually enters the computer system.
The way this is done is through an infected program from a disc, e-mail, or network.
Next the program or application must be executed or "launched." This is done when you
simply open the attached e-Mail or program. Now the file has the opportunity (while in
memory) to copy itself to many other files on the system. When an un-suspecting user has
reached this stage, he or she might pass the virus along in the form of sending or copying
a "typically harmless" file to a friend. The cycle repeats itself on the friends machine
and so on .....

Content Management Systems?

If your company deals with people, has a web site, and has information or products, you probably
need a Content Managemtent System. When managing a web site, users inside the company, in order
to gain maximum benefit the web site offers, will want to feed content to the site. The job of
Content Management Systems is to ensure the easiest possible way to get the information on the
site ensuring accuracy.

The way Content Management Systems work is through a carefully designed database system which
controls the content to be applied to a web site. Content management systems range from very
basic databases, to sophisticated tailor-made applications. The database contains a method of
authentication and sign-off on content. Content managers may need to be trained on the process
and use of the database, but in the long run will benefit from the knowledge that the content
they are responsible for is where it needs to be and is actually what it needs to be.

XML?

http://builder.cnet.com/webbuilding/pages/Authoring/Xml20/ss01.html?tag=st.bl.7267.dir1.XML20_1

XML is an acronym which stands for Extensible Markup Language. XML is related to HTML, but allows
for much greater flexibility in describing documents and data. The way XML does this is by its use
of defined tags. Unlike tags from HTML, XML uses tags which separate the content and context from
presentation. Using XML tagging structure, data within a web page is defined. For example, XML will
allow online booksellers to use tags such as "price," "number of pages," and "author." A customer
with an XML browser then can use these specific criteria to sort through the inventory and
arrange the results on the desktop. Using straight HTML these definable tags are not available.

XML was created and developed by the W3C XML Working Group, and XML was made a standard mid February
1998. Since then browsing the web with various devices, including Cell phones and PDA's has become
common. It is precisely this fact that XML and content and conext rather than presentation has become
very important. By separating content and context from presentation, the same XML source document can
be written one time, then displayed on various devices (it can even be translated into voice on a
device for the blind).

Knowing what XML is and how important XML is, determining the need to learn XML. Knowing HTML makes
you quite capable to build web pages, even highly interactive web pages. But if you want to prepare
for automatic data processing or multiple browser devices, you probably need to consider learning XML.
